Promotion Methods
Fake Voice Communication Clients
Popular voice communication clients are often imitated by cyber criminals to promote Steam Stealer malware because the criminals can tell intended victims that the software is required to participate in fictitious gaming tournaments. The image on the left is an example of one of these websites. This website is imitating "Razer Comms", a legitimate voice communication client. |

Fake Teamspeak Updates and Plugins
Targeted Steam users are often invited to connect to a Teamspeak server. Upon connecting to the Teamspeak server the targeted Steam user will be presented with a Teamspeak Host Message that states either Teamspeak needs to be updated or a plugin is required in order to join the server. Of course, the link to the update or plugin is just a download for the malware. The video on the left is an example of what happens when you attempt to connect to a Teamspeak server promoting Steam Stealer malware. |
